Beef has historically been and remains an important claim ingredient for pet food. A lot of side streams are generated from the production of beef for human consumption, which offer interesting possibilities for pet food applications. By-products of the beef industry include meat trimmings, bones, fat, and organs. IQI cooperates strategically with large beef processors to create sustainable solutions for developing multiple value-added and functional beef-based pet food ingredients.
Pure dried beef is a protein-rich pet food ingredient that is very palatable to dogs and cats. It is produced as a by-product of the collagen/gelatin production process. This is done in a human-grade processing plant using beef bone chips. During the process of extracting collagen/gelatin from the bones, a soluble protein is also produced. This product is partially defatted and hydrolyzed, and then spray dried to form a powder with a high protein content of more than 70%. It is low in ash and very palatable to cats and dogs.
