Sven & Bernadette Gravendeel start selling specialty ingredients to pet food producers from their home in Ermelo. Mervo becomes their very first client, with Hill’s following in the second year.
The Gravendeel couple foresees a market opportunity for this new exotic product and starts selling it to customers.
When a third big client is acquired, Sven & Bernadette decide to move their business elsewhere. Rietlaan 2 in Ermelo becomes their first office.
Business is going well and a warehouse is needed. As ground prices in Ermelo are high and building a silo tower is not an option in the village, Sven & Bernadette have to look elsewhere again. Zwolle and Moerdijk are taken into consideration, but they eventually settle with Coevorden. Building the 30 meter high silo requires subsidies, an adjustment of the destination plan and a fast working official. The two stone footprints of Sven & Bernadette’s children right at the entrance of the warehouse are still there!
As overseas business is growing, Sven & Bernadette open a warehouse that offers access to the American railway system. Ingredients are transported with designated IQI wagons to clients throughout the country. These days, trucks are used.

Together with its founders and management, investment company Egeria acquires a majority interest in IQI.
IQI takes over Smit & Zoon’s Functional Oils division, which has by then served as a preferred supplier of Omega-3 fish oil for years.
IQI moves its head office to Amersfoort. The new premises are centrally located in the Netherlands with excellent transport connections, allowing us to further expand and strengthen our team in response to ever faster changes in the pet food market.
