Chicken is the most common animal protein source in pet food. There are a number of good reasons for the fact that chicken is the number 1 animal protein in pet food:
- abundant available volume globally
- Relatively easy specie with regard export health certification
- No religious sensitivity
- Excellent nutritional profile of the co-products
- Relatively low carbon footprint of based animal proteins
- Many global initiatives available with regard animal welfare (slow growing breeds, stocking density, outdoor access, etc.)
At IQI we focus on specialty and functional chicken products. This can vary from organic, free-range chicken, high protein chicken products, hydrolyzed chicken products, bio-functional chicken products (palatability, joint health, IgY, etc.), and techno functional chicken products (binding and gelling).
Spray-dried animal plasma (SDAP) is well recognized by the pet food industry as an important functional and palatable ingredient. Of the different versions available in the market, chicken plasma powder is the most versatile and has the highest acceptance. Manufacturers mostly use it as a source of protein and appreciate its excellent gel formation and emulsifying properties, as well as its very good water-binding capacity. Cats and dogs mostly benefit from its richness of important vitamins and minerals, essential amino acids, and immunoglobulin G (IgG), which protects the body from infection.
