Oats are a widely used grain in dog food. Once cooked and served at room temperature, oats are relatively easy for dogs to digest. They are a natural source of dietary fiber, and contain a variety of micronutrients, including manganese, selenium, vitamin B1, magnesium and phosphorus. Oats also support skin and coat health due to their content of vitamin B and linoleic acid, which is an omega-6 fatty acid. As a naturally gluten-free grain, oats are a suitable ingredient for sensitive pets and functional pet food formulations.
IQI’s pure oat beta-glucan is a functional ingredient extracted from oats, with a high beta-glucan content of 34%. This source of soluble prebiotic fiber promotes satiety and supports healthy digestion. It also contributes to blood sugar control and helps lower cholesterol levels—benefits backed by EFSA and FDA recognition. The product contains around 7% moisture, 3.5% protein, 6.5% fat, and less than 1% ash. Used at a dosage of 0.5–3% in dry extruded dog food, oat beta-glucan also improves the digestibility of nutrients and supports overall health, making it a valuable addition to both human and pet diets.
