As oats are known as a rich source of dietary fiber and micronutrients and given their numerous health benefits, oats SPC Oat Care is used in a wide array of feed and pet foods – both as a nutritional and a functional ingredient. In our recently published whitepaper ‘SPC Oat Care: stimulating Protein-AF production in dogs’, Innovation Manager Geert van der Velden takes a deep dive into IQI’s version of this popular pet food ingredient.
As the title of the whitepaper already suggests, there is quite some interesting science behind the different health benefits that oats have to offer. “Oats stimulate the natural production of Protein Antisecretory Factor (Protein-AF), a protein found in all cells in humans and animals that helps regulating the transport of liquid and ions across cell membranes”, Van der Velden explains. “Although it is naturally created in the bodies of dogs, the extent to which varies between individuals. SPC Oat Care can therefore serve as a welcome stimulator for Protein-AF production.”
SPC Oat Care, the product that Van der Velden focuses on in the whitepaper, is a patented feed ingredient produced by IQI’s partner Lantmännen. The product is based on extensive innovative research and has been used by dog parents for many years, where it has shown to have anti-secretory and anti-inflammatory effects. The product is non-GMO, contains zero additives, and can be used as a standard petfood ingredient with no side-effects.
“Carefully explaining the science behind ingredients is becoming increasingly important as more and more pet parents seek hard evidence for the claims on pet food products they buy”, Van der Velden states. “With this whitepaper, I’m hoping to help pet food brands and manufactures to answer this trend. For the full picture, I’ve also included SPC Oat Care’s nutritional value and recommended dosage for dogs.”
