Tapioca has become a highly targeted ingredient in grain-free diets for pets. The product is derived from a specific root crop (Manihot esculenta, better known as cassava or manioc) native to the South American Amazon and Caribbean regions. Today, it is grown and serving as a staple around the globe – from India, throughout the southern Pacific Rim and Indonesia to Sub-Saharan Africa. Dried tapioca almost fully consists of non-structural carbohydrates (approx. 99%), containing hardly any protein, ash, fat, and fiber.
The cassave (tapioca) roots for IQI’s tapioca pellets are sourced from the same farmers as those that supply us Thai sweet potato. The pellets have a similar starch content of 65% and also come from multiple harvests per year. Due to their traceability and GMP and HACCP quality certification, these farmers represent a sustainable, clean and reliable source that guarantees a consistent quality with neglectable pesticide residues, while also bringing more stability to the local farming community.
