Pure salmon is an important source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and other essential nutrients that offer health benefits to cats and dogs. Salmon can be included in pet food as different kinds of ingredient, such as dried salmon, salmon meal, salmon hydrolyzate, or salmon oil. All of these ingredients are made from pure and fresh-farmed Chilean salmon that adheres to the highest international sustainability and quality standards. One of the most popular applications of salmon in pet food is in the form of salmon meal, which is made from fresh side streams of pure Chilean salmon. The salmon products are processed by cooking, drying, and grinding into a brown meal that can be applied to pet food directly. Salmon meal is low in histamine, is available with a minimal protein level of 62% or 68%, and has a very high digestibility of 94%.
