Salmon hydrolysate, made from side streams of pure Chilean salmon, is one of the most recent applications of salmon in pet food. The fresh salmon products are processed via hydrolysation into a beige, fine powder rich in protein and other essential nutrients that can be applied to pet food directly. Salmon hydrolysate is available with a minimal protein level of 72% and has a very high digestibility of 99%. It can be applied to pet food formulas that require a high digestibility or a high protein and low ash content, or used in specific treats that require a fine powder. Moreover, as the protein is enzymatically hydrolyzed, it meets hypoallergenic food requirements.
