IQI supports 15 projects through its social impact fund at Wakibi

May 11 2021 - News

IQI strategic partner of Wakibi

In January 2021, IQI became a strategic partner of the Dutch microfinancing platform Wakibi. We would like to give our partners and customers insight into the projects we have supported so far. In the first quarter of this year, our social impact fund at Wakibi has increased from €4,000 to €5,050. As soon as enough money from the microloans has been paid off, this is directly used to issue new microloans – thereby increasing our social impact. So far, our social impact fund has been used to support 15 projects by providing micro credit loans to entrepreneurs in 9 different countries across South America, Africa, Central and South East Asia.

Supporting projects by providing micro credit loans

We would like to introduce a few of them:

  • In Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia, 34-year-old entrepreneur Gulkayir has been engaged in animal husbandry since 2010. She applied for a loan for the purchase of dairy cows to further develop her farm, increase sales of organic milk and income from livestock breeding to support her family. She plans to invest the income from the loan in the further development of her business.
  • In Peru we supported 22-year-old entrepreneur Marlio, who lives and works in the Huicungo district of the San Martín region. This area is dedicated to cultivating the aromatic grain from cocoa beans that they export through their Cooperatives. He will use his loan to plant more cocoa seedlings and to buy fertilizers, which will allow him to increase production.
  • 42-year-old Jocelyn from the Philippines received a loan for her agricultural business to buy feeds and other supplies to raise het livestock. Her aim is to save enough money so she could afford to send her children to college.

Socially responsible company

By investing in their environmentally friendly projects in food and agriculture, our social impact fund has helped to improve the lives of 75 people. For IQI, as a socially responsible company, this is a wonderful opportunity to empower people in less developed countries to improve their lives and at the same time make real impact in a sustainable way.
