Natural dietary fibers as functional and clean label ingredients in pet food

May 12 2026 - News

Dietary fibers are increasingly recognized as an important functional ingredient in pet food, rather than just a means to add bulk. In pet food, they can add nutritional and health benefits and come with good functional properties as clean label binders.

To achieve the intended effects, however, it is necessary to take multiple things into consideration for your pet food formulation. For example, the kind of fiber, their physical structure and the total fiber content.

Read our white paper on natural dietary fibers

Dietary fibers are plant carbohydrates found in natural food sources, such as whole grains, vegetables and legumes, fruit, and single cell organisms. In our updated white paper on natural dietary fibers, our Innovation Manager Geert van der Velden goes into detail about the different kinds of fibers and their benefits and applications in pet food. Among other things he discusses:

– Soluble fibers for prebiotic effects and immune system support

– Insoluble fibers to stimulate bowel function

– Fibers as clean label and functional binders

– A selection of fiber-rich ingredients and their functional benefits
