Tomato pomace is produced as a by-product of the tomato processing industry. The skin, pulp, and seeds are separated from the tomatoes during the production of tomato-based products like ketchup, sauces, and canned tomatoes. Because of its fiber content of around 36%, tomato pomace can aid digestion and support a healthy gastrointestinal tract in pets. Fiber is also essential for regular bowel movements and can thereby help manage weight. Other health-promoting nutrients in tomato pomace are lycopene, the well-known antioxidant that gives tomatoes their red color, and amino acids that help prevent excessive free radical production in healthy cells.
