Algae DHA biomass

Omega-3 fatty acids are widely recognized in pet food for their essential health benefits to cats and dogs, with the long-chain EPA and DHA fatty acids being the most important. Microalgae grown under controlled conditions offer a fully traceable, sustainable, clean and high-quality source of EPA and DHA long-chain omega-3 fatty acid. They offer a perfect alternative to fish oil to meet the global demand for omega-3 and take the strain of fish stocks.

IQI's microalgae for use in pet food are grown under controlled conditions through heterotrophic fermentation in closed reactors. Non-GMO microalgae convert renewable, sustainable plant sugars into algal biomass, which is then dried into a powdered product and stabilized with natural antioxidants.

IQI's Algae EPA&DHA dried biomass has a DHA content of 20% or 35% and, according to recent studies, can be added before the pet food extrusion process without detrimental effect for the stability of the DHA.

Of the various specific pet health benefits EPA&DHA offer, a notable one is managing inflammatory problems in the prevention and treatment of diseases. DHA is also reported to support healthy joints, skin/coat, heart, eyes and brain function.
