BSF meal

Insect protein is an alternative protein source for use in pet foods. The supply of insect protein has grown very strongly in the past few years. The biggest advances have been realized with the farming of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, which seem to be the most economic to produce and are rich in protein, fats, and other important nutrients. This innovative pet food ingredient can be applied as a more sustainable and potentially healthier alternative to traditional meat-based ingredients with similar functionality and palatability.

BSF meal

IQI's BSF meal is a source of high-quality protein, essential amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. It is produced in a state-of-the-art facility from insect larvae. These are dried, oil is extracted, and the remaining protein is further processed into BSF meal with added antioxidants. BSF meal typically contains 55% crude protein and maximum 15% crude fat, 8% crude fiber, 9% ash, and 7% moisture. It also contains bioactive peptides, which have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and hypoallergenic properties, and bioactive lipids, which have antimicrobial properties. Chitin, a polysaccharide found in BSF meal, acts as a prebiotic dietary fiber and supports good gut health.
