IQI and Eggnovo start partnership offering Ovopet® eggshell membrane for pet food

IQI Trusted Petfood Ingredients and Eggnovo have signed a partnership agreement to offer an Eggshell Membrane (ESM) powder solution to the pet food market. Our new ingredient Ovopet®, is an innovative, natural eggshell-derived material with proven health benefits. 

Eggnovo is a Spanish company committed to investigating the full potential of eggshell-based ingredients for nature, sustainability, science, and health, with the aim of improving the wellbeing of both humans and animals. As a supplement for pet food, ESM solutions are a natural, vegetarian, upcycled ingredient with health benefits that enhance your pet’s quality of life. 

High in collagen and diverse in use

Ovopet® is a science backed, undenatured ingredient containing collagen type I, V and X, with a very low daily dosage needed. On top of collagen, it naturally contains a matrix of biomolecules such as hyaluronic acid, elastin, chondroitin sulphate, and glucosamine. Ovopet® has a purity of over 90% protein and a shelf life of 48 months. This product can be utilized in many different formats such as capsules, tablets, dry and wet pet food and snacks among others. 

Health benefits for joints, skin and coat

Dogs of all ages are subject to hip dysplasia and the resultant osteoarthritis, resulting in joint inflammation. Study has shown that Ovopet® is a safe and highly effective ingredient for relieving pain and reducing inflammation. ESM contains compounds involved in the reduction of inflammation, the benefits of which can be seen in joint, skin and gut health. Supplementation with this eggshell-derived ingredient produces a significant reduction in joint pain symptoms while also improving the physical function, enhancing the quality of life of your pet.  

Eggshell membrane supplementation supports gut health by reducing inflammation-related bacteria and enhancing gut integrity. The non-digestible fraction serves as a substrate to be fermented by gut microbes and increases microbiota diversity. Fermentation of these components produces short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which nourish gut cells and foster a balanced microbiome. 

Sustainability

Eggshell as a byproduct of human food consumption is upcycled by Eggnovo for use in ESM based solutions. The membrane is separated from the eggshell through a patented method using a chemical-free extraction process, creating a natural ingredient. It is vegetarian and suitable for both the conventional consumer and those looking for sustainable and human-grade ingredients. 

Availability and co-development

The partnership between IQI and Eggnovo now makes Ovopet®  easily available to all of our customers in North America, with IQI acting as the distributor. Ovopet® is a strong addition to IQI’s portfolio of functional ingredients, and it opens up exciting co-development opportunities for new product innovations within the pet food space.
