Mackerel is available in various sub-varieties in Europe and South America. Like herring, it is a well-known species for human consumption, making it an ideal claim ingredient in European and North American pet foods. Similar to herring, the species contains substantial amounts of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which not only contribute to healthy joints and overall mobility, but also support a healthy skin and coat in cats and dogs.
IQI's mackerel meal is a continuously available, single-species protein meal for pet food applications. Mackerel meal is a source of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids and is also loaded with essential nutrients, such as vitamin B12, vitamin D, and amino acids. Its high levels of oil, which is rich in omega-3, also benefit pet’s coat and skin health. The final product is stabilized with a natural anti-oxidant to increase shelf-life.
EU certified
As confirmed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), all of IQI's imported animal proteins from Europe which comply with EU Regulation 1069/2009, once further processed into petfood in the U.S. are eligible for export from the U.S. to the EU.
